Ranchero Software (who make some of the best Mac applications for Web use out there) has really caught my attention this week. I’m particularly impressed with their very famous NetNewsWire product. I have no idea what Jobs & co have up their sleeve with Tiger, but I’m digging NNW!
In particular, something I just stumbled upon, which I’m sure you all know already, is their blog editor application, MarsEdit. I always thought that blog editors would generate static pages for you to publish, .Mac style. I had no idea that blogging software generally implements XML based RPCs (remote procedure calls) that let you control your blog from another software element. (Like the editor).
Supported Weblogs include:
- Blogger
- Blogware
- Conversant
- Drupal
- LiveJournal
- Manilla (News Items)
- Moveable Type (of course)
- PHPosxom
- pMachine
- Radio UserLand
- SnipSnap
- TypePad
- WordPress
- (many more)
So without further ado, I’m going to publish this and update it later when I get a chance, all from MarsEdit of course.
Update
So here’s a funny problem: The post from MarsEdit did not show up right away. Why? As far as I can tell, it’s because the date of the post is 6 hours in the future according to my web server. Therefore, it will display it once it is no longer ‘in the future’. This is an odd bug, and one that will continue to get me as long as I’m East of the web server. Since I’m currently in Austria, and the web server is in Manhattan, I have a problem. Once I head home to the Canada/Mountain timezone, this is a non-issue. Mind you, if I farm out the web server contract to a company on the wet coast, I’ll have this problem all over again.
Update 2: Just cleaning it up and ensuring it’s working a bit better.
